North Crest Fire Update from Cibola National Forest, USFS

Sandia Ranger District – North Crest Fire, 1200

Albuquerque, NM, July 8, 2017 – Minimal fire activity is occurring at this time. Fire crews continue to address ground work in accessible areas of the North Crest Fire located within the Sandia Mountain Wilderness Area.

Today’s focus will be to construct a 40 foot cleared area surrounding the Sandia Crest Communication towers. The communication site is a critical infrastructure and this work will enhance its future protection.

The management of the fire remains under the jurisdiction of the Sandia Ranger District. Approximately 65 personnel are assigned along with a helicopter and one engine. The successful accomplishments of the last several days and diminished fire activity will result in an eventual reduction of personnel.
