The Bernalillo Countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan is designed to help Bernalillo County better plan and prepare for potential wildfire in your community. See this recent presentation by Cody Stropki, SWCA Environmental Consultants.
Bernalillo County’s CWPP Story Map is an online version of the Plan that includes a resource hub for homeowners.
Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a political subdivision of the State of New Mexico. Ciudad SWCD promotes conservation, improvement, and responsible use of natural resources on rural and urban lands within its boundaries, as outlined in the New Mexico Soil and Water Conservation District Act. Ciudad SWCD’s programs include many projects focused on forest and watershed health and reducing risk of wildfire.
In 2006 in cooperation with Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District, EMWPA spearheaded an effort to create a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for the East Mountains using a community-based process. The CWPP was then updated in 2015.
In late 2021, Bernalillo County contracted with SWCA Environmental Consultants to update the 2015 Plan by incorporating the entire county in the Bernalillo County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, including the west side of Sandia Peak and the Rio Grande bosque. The 2022 update includes new mapping, analysis of current fuels, infrastructure, population, and values at risk.
